Toy Review: S.H.Figuarts Suicide Squad Joker

Since I’ve unboxed the S.H.Figuarts Deadshot figure already in my previous post, I’ll be unboxing the other character form the same line, the Joker.

Also known as the Clown Prince of Crime, the Joker is one of the most notable comic character villain for both the comics and the movie universe. Joker’s real name was just recently announced by Sean Gordon Murphy – he will be named Jack Napier.

For the longest time, his name wasn’t disclosed in either the comics verse nor the movie adaptation maybe this is to keep his character more interesting and mysterious which is very much part of his total personality much like how they made the Red Hood story very appealing. There has also been many different versions and adaptation on his character, probably the most notable one was Heath Ledger’s portrayal of the Joker on Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight” Batman series – which made the standard of playing the said villain even more tough for the next actors to portray the said role.

S.H.Figuarts initially released their Harley Quinn figure before they’ve teased the collectors with the Joker S.H.Figuarts figure then – given that the series that they we’re adapting was from the Suicide Squad movie it was just apt that they made the Jared Leto version of the Joker.

For me, Jared’s performance of the Joker was not as bad as I thought it would be, I was mainly judging his portrayal based on how they teased his appearance when the character first came our in the initial press release photos – of course,I’m referring to the “damaged” tattoo on his forehead. But upon watching the movie, I’ve learned that his portrayal has a different feel and attack compared to Heath’s performance which was not disappointing – although the Suicide Squad’s storyline was very shallow it still managed to show the Joker’s evil side especially when it comes to being a burden to his favorite enemy, Batman.

I’ll be doing an unboxing on the S.H.Figuarts Suicide Squad Joker figure. Today’s review is brought to us by GreatToysOnline.

The costume that they chose for the S.S. Joker version was the party suit costume which is okay for me, It would weird if they’ve chosen the half naked purple coat costume.

You’ll initially notice how shiny the paint on the suit and pants are – by shiny I mean metallic – which suits his personality and style for the said role, the material is similar to all the soft PVCs they they’ve produced similar to the coat of the Super and Hyper Shinken Red and the costume of the SHF Chun-li figure.

The elbow and knee joint has a seamless design which I think is SHF’s direction for all the figures that they will be releasing for all the upcoming figure production. I really like his black slacks, it feels very natural looking – also his leather shoes. Articulation wise, there are many articulation points on this figure, from the shoulder joints down to the elbows, the present ab crunch articulation, the hips and legs, articulation on the knees and the feet.

The Joker set has a few set of interchangeable hands, one laughing face and accessories. You’ll notice when you change his hands that the bracelets are actually removable and is also a part of his accessories for the entire set.

The extra accessories would be the two purple hand guns, I was expecting that they would be producing other small accessories similar to the earlier S.H.Figuarts Joker from Injustice series.

If you already have the Harley Quinn and Deadshot figure and is planning to get your hands on the “Batffleck” SHF release, I think you might want to consider adding this to your collection. You can also check MAFEX’s take on the Heath Ledger Joker and their two Suicide Squad Joker figure to see how the appearance and interpretation on the same character differs from each other.
