Toy Review: S.H.Figuarts The Flash (Justice League)

“Run Barry, Run!”, hearing this phrase reminds me of one famous DC superhero – The Flash! Barry Allen is one of the most iconic character in the DC Universe and he was just recently added in the DC movie-verse portrayed by Ezra Miller.

Ezra did an amazing job in making the film as light and funny as possible – given that we’ve been having dark themed DC movies in the past.

Bandai Tamashii already produced its first batch of figures for the Justice League S.H.Figuarts figure – Batman and Wonder Woman – you may check out my review on thse figure in this site!

The first thing I’ve noticed with the box art is that this set doesn’t have the PVC window – it’s mainly covered by the box and you won’t be able to take a peek at what’s inside the box. I think this was an intentional move by Bandai Tamashii because if you look inside the box, there are barely no accessories – except for the interchangeable hands – that is included in the set.

I’m just thinking, well, there’s really no accessories for the Flash – maybe Bandai could’ve added speed or lighting effects instead?

The figure may lack accessories however it packs a lot of details in the suit. You can see minute details added in the suit – even battle damages can be seen in his suit.

The figure has many articulation points although there could be limitations in posing because of how the suit was made and placed in the specific joints and bendable areas of the figure.

The face detail is good to look at from a far but if you look at it up close, you’ll notice that the face was digitally printed because you can see pixels and dots. If they would do paint apps for the face similar to how Mafex does it – it might either look too pale or too bland – whch in this case Bandai did a better face paint job than Mafex for me. I think the reason why they are doing digital print is to add dimension and texture on the face given that the production of Bandai is getting bigger so they had to make a way to mass produce the figures – hand painting could be too tedious, probably?

Overall, I still highly recommend this figure if you already have the Batman or the Wonder Woman figure. If you haven’t started collecting the SHF JL figures, then this might be a good starting figure to purchase – even if the figure lacks accessories – remember that it is still very poseable compared the the DC Universe figure. The Mafex version is also a good alternative.
