Toy Review: S.H.Figuarts Superman (Justice League)

Superman made its first comic book appearance in the Action Comics issue #1 in June of 1938 since then copies of this issue has got to be the most treasured and high valued comic book yet. He is also considered to be DC Comics’ very iconic superhero – well, who wouldn’t recognize the signature “S” symbol on his chest? He had a lot of movie and TV series appearance as well, one of the most recent ones was a team up movie with the rest of the Justice League which I find very interesting – I know we’ll see more of this kind of movie in the future.

S.H.Figuarts announced that they will be producing figures from the Justice League movie, Superman is their fourth figure release. I’ve done a review on the Batman, Wonder Woman and Flash review earlier this year – you may click the photos to see more!

I’ll be doing a quick unboxing review on the S.H.Figuarts Superman (Justice League) figure! This review is brought to us by GreatToys Online – make sure to visit their site and stores and make sue to check out the toys and figures up for sale!

The figure set is similar to the Flash’s box – there’s no PVC plastic window to see the contents inside the box. Although this set has more accessories than the Flash set – by more I meant an alternative head (which made it through toy memes because of how it looked when Bandai and Tamashii Nations first released their promotional photos for the figure).

This figure also features a cloth cape for Superman – this makes him very versatile when it comes to posing him, there are more varieties that can be done with a cloth cape material over a plastic cape (I’m referring to the first Doctor Strange SHF figure).

The cape has a thin wire at the hem line, the flexibility of the wire is comparable to that of twist tie. My main complain for the cape would be that the cloth connecting to the main body is not sewn very clean – you an actually see that the edges of the hem sticks out.

The figures is fully articulated, I really liked how they made it very compact yet very poseable. You can also feel that this is made out of quality plastic because of how they did the figure articulation and paint applications.

Speaking of paint applications – I liked how they added texture to the entire suit, this is a really minute detail that I really appreciate because it gives a very movie accurate replica of the Superman suit from the movie. You can actually feel the suit scales when you touch it.

They even added details on the back – not sure why they didn’t even bother adding details to the recently released Captain America figure.

For some reason, if you compare the digital print of the Superman figure over the Captain America figure, you’ll clearly see that this figure has a better digital print on the face. Maybe because Superman doesn’t have any facial hair?

This has got to be my favorite figure from the Justice League S.H.Figuarts line. I really had a lot of fun shooting and posing him. Given that there are few accessories included, the figure itself was very interesting and very versatile that even without the use of accessories you can do a lot with the Superman figure!

Before I end this review – we have got to discuss the alternative head! I think Bandai did an okay job sculpting this one – although its weird that they did the a combination of the angry laser eyes rather than have both – a regular angry face and a laser eyes face – where in they could’ve done two alternative head instead. No wonder this alternative head gained many fan memes – Superman looks funny in this one – I hope they added a laser effect that could go well with this alternative head.

Overall, I highly recommend this figure if you’re planning to get one! Like I said this is my favorite figure from the JL set. You’ll see why when you get to open your own set!

I’ve posted a behind the scenes photo on my Facebook page on how I did the flying Superman shot – I call this the blutac hack.
